Diving is fashionable and diving trips are booming. It is more than proven that when someone tries diving, it becomes a passion and begins to dream of flying to new destinations and discovering what is hidden in its waters.
We are Isaac and Victor, founders of Buceando a Mares, a project in which we provide tailor-made diving trips and thanks to which, today we are going to show you the 5 most fascinating destinations to which to travel and dive.
But that’s not all, we’re not only going to talk to you about exotic and distant destinations but we also think about the diving you want to do in Spain. For that reason, we are going to tell you the best national diving points so that you can enjoy your passion without having to fly to the other end of the world.
Do you want a small preview of what we are going to tell you? Then take note, we are going to talk to you about diving in the Red Sea, Maldives or Indonesia and we are going to touch such spectacular destinations as Mozambique or the island of Coco.
Ready for what’s to come? If I were you, I wouldn’t miss it.
We are going to present you some of the diving trips dreamed of by every diver and, if you allow us, we would like to challenge you: Why don’t you propose one of these destinations as an objective to go to in this new traveler year?
Diving and travel
As we told you before, scuba diving is fashionable. There are more and more people who decide to try it, train and obtain the certification to make the most of their trips.
Thanks to this, people fall in love with what we call “underwater tourism”, that is, they are not only left with the landscapes, culture, food and people of a country, but also discover its seabed.
Scuba diving is something that gets hooked, it becomes a passion and in the end you end up planning your trips depending on whether or not you will be able to dive in them.
Thanks to this the diving trips have been born, some organized and very specific trips thought exclusively for divers who are triumphing in every way.
We are dedicated to precisely that, to organize trips that become unique diving experiences.
Before that we remind you that if you are going to make a diving trip you should take out a diving insurance to be well covered. Diving is a sport that has its risk and being well insured can save you from a scare. Health expenses in international destinations such as the ones we propose are expensive, even more so if we suffer diving accidents such as decompression syndrome. Apart from that, it is not superfluous to cover flights, luggage or other reservations and activities that we can do.
A dive trip to the Red Sea
We start with the most popular destination in Spain, diving in the Red Sea.
Egypt is the most requested among divers for 3 reasons:
- It is relatively close.
- You can dive almost all year round in very good conditions. The best is between March and December.
- The bottoms are spectacular.
- Do you want to know what you can find in the seabed of the Red Sea?
If you like shipwrecks we recommend the Northern Route where you will discover the famous SS Thistlegorm, Carnatic or Salem Express.
If you prefer something wilder like diving with hammerhead sharks, oceanic whitetip sharks or thresher sharks, the Golden Triangle (Brothers, Daedalus & Elphinstone) is for you in the summer months.
Here we tell you more about diving trips to the Red Sea, both from the hotel and from life on board and we leave you this video to be bitten by the worm.
Diving in Maldives
Maldives is a diving paradise where you can dive all year round, but in different areas depending on the season.
From October to June you will be able to enjoy the most famous and demanded life on board, those of the 4 atoll route. Here, apart from the wonderful coral walls, you can see for example white-tipped sharks, hammerheads, barracudas, nurse sharks, manta rays or the giant whale shark.
On the other hand, if you want to dive from June to November you must go north to Baa Atoll, where you can snorkel at Hanifaru Bay with one of the largest aggregations of manta rays on the planet and even whale sharks.
Discover scuba diving in Indonesia
The third diving destination you should not miss and that we present you is Indonesia.
More than 17,000 islands and 2 million square kilometres make Indonesia one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet.
As you can imagine, being so big you will be able to have perfect diving conditions all year round in different areas that we explain right now.
Between April and October we recommend the areas of Bali, Komodo, Sulawesi or Borneo where you will find many giant manta rays, turtles, corals in perfect condition and small life as pygmy sea horses or frog fish. A wonder.
On the other hand, if you go between November and March we recommend you to choose the easternmost part of the country, specifically Raja Ampat, a paradise that will make you fall in love and in which you will see beautiful coral gardens and infinity of species and life everywhere.
Anyway, if you can not choose date do not worry, wherever you go and on the date you will find good conditions and enjoy the most spectacular dives on the planet.
Diving in Cocos (Isla del Coco, Costa Rica)
Now we present you a more exotic destination to make your mouth water: Coco Island.
This is a perfect destination to go all year round with water at a very good temperature (between 24 and 30 degrees) and always full of life.
If you have a choice, we recommend going from June to December (wet season) where the sea is more moved and there is less visibility due to plankton but that makes the dives are pure action and adrenaline: you will be able to enjoy the entire food chain and full activity, sharks and more sharks.
Between December and May (dry season) you will have a calmer sea and less rain and also a lot of action. So it won’t let you down either.
We tell you a little more about a diving trip to Cocos Island here, enjoy the action we’re going to show you.
Scuba Diving Trip to Mozambique
We continue with the exotic touch descending to the south of Africa, a somewhat unknown and really spectacular destination: Mozambique.
Scuba diving in Mozambique is shocking because you will be able to enjoy some of the largest animals on Earth.
You’ll be able to dive all year round and no matter when you go, you’ll always get a chance to see whale sharks and manta rays, as well as sharks and all kinds of tropical life.
But this does not end here, if you go between July and October you will be able to admire the migration of the humpback whale that goes north looking for a more pleasant place to give birth and take care of their calves, a spectacle worth seeing.
And if you have days and feel like it, you can put the icing on the cake and complete the trip with a safari in South Africa’s Kruger Park and meet elephants, giraffes or lions.
As you can see, a trip of super complete diving that you can’t miss, do it at least once in your life. We tell you more details of this diving trip to Mozambique here.
Would you rather dive closer? Best places to dive in Spain
The trips we have proposed to you are ideal and you should do some of them sometime in your life but still you are looking for a closer destination, something that does not mean so many days of vacation and so much budget.
Don’t know where to dive in Spain?
Don’t worry, we also have an ideal solution for you: diving in the Canary Islands is your best option. They have some of the best dive sites in Spain, we are going to recommend some:
Diving in Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a biosphere reserve since 1993 so their dives are of high quality throughout the year, especially between April and October.
In Lanzarote in addition to its particular landscape can be found places like Playa Blanca or the dives of Puerto del Carmen. If you dive in Lanzarote, you can not fail to do so in the Atlantic Museum, a true work of art under the sea that makes us reflect on the need for conservation.
Lanzarote is also the starting point to visit the eighth island, the Graciosa, with beautiful dives and almost intact bottoms.
Diving in El Hierro
One of the best diving spots in Spain is on the island of El Hierro. Surrounded by a great volcanic mountain, its depths fall to more than 100 meters. You will find a lot of caves, arches and canyons and you will be able to see from devil rays to trumpet fish and chuchos resting on the bottom. El Mar de las Calmas is undoubtedly the best diving area in El Hierro and the islands.
After the eruption of the submarine volcano in 2011, far from destroying the bottoms, years later it has recovered and with more force than before.
El Hierro is possibly the best of all the islands for diving, since it is also the one that is closest to open sea and encounters with large animals is much more likely.
